For this entry, which will be reoccurring every so often, I'm gonna recommend some youtube videos and essays I find that I really liked. Some of them will be indie animations and just really whatever niche video I find that is kind of obscure. I love watching videos while I draw, craft, or eat so I end up watching a lot in a day. I'm sure if I were normal and had a real job this wouldn't be the case but I don't so here we are! :3
Starting with an indie anime that reflects a retro style with professional Japanese voice acting and subtitles in various languages. I choose to recommend this BECAUSE it is independent and the style is retro but not in the way that is typical when some artists say it is (Sailor Moon, I love that style but it's not the only anime style ever!). The pacing is very quick and it didn't give me a lot of time to get attached to characters before things happened to them or they switched sides. I do think though this is more a proof that it can be done, people can make anime that is unique and doesn't adhere to a one-size-fits-all style. I also do think it's worth watching, I hope the story is continued and that more deliberate time is taken with plot points so that so much isn't crammed into 20 minutes.
The next one is another indie production going into the magical girl genre and again with a more unique style than some of its predecessors in the indie genre. This one is also a little quick but it IS labeled as a proof of concept. I think it's adorable and the colors are so pleasing and well done.
Time for the niche stuff. >:3 Basically, what it says on the tin, a history of the history channel and some of the more eccentric shows that aired on it as well as their weird fascination with pseudo-science and aliens. One to put on while eating or doing crafts. I recommend his other videos too.
Another one, this one is a bit silly but I enjoyed watching weird and obscure CD-Roms. Kind of inspiring in a way for finding them myself.
I never played humongus games actually! So I really enjoyed learning about the company's history, the various games in their catalogue and why they faded into obscurity.
I just like this video, I literally never heard of this monkey and the video was silly. 10/10
I have no horse in this race but I liked watching this guy breaking down why he felt the Walking with Dinosaurs 2025 show was inferior to its predecessors.
I'm starting to get sleepy lol but this animated short has subtitles so be sure to make sure they're on! It's just cute really it has no real substance but artistically I like it a lot, animating a character making a vlog with real scenery is crazy technique. I also want her purse.
I never got to watch Digimon as a kid so this was really interesting to me!
I agree with the points this guy made but I also want to add that while the Mimic game goes more in a good direction it also feels almost unrelated. It's a little convoluted and takes away the punch of most of FNAF's earlier entries.
Old malware is always really fascinating to me especially because it's always slightly horror in the surrealness of them but some are genuinely silly. Fun video to watch and learn about a few old malwares!
For this recommendation I'm doing two videos of theirs, I really liked them and despite getting increasingly sleepy I may rewatch the anime one in the morning to find some of them.
